In bas relief the front of the shield depicts a burning bush. This shield was said to be crafted by St. Zadius I from brass he recovered from the belt buckle of an efreeti. The efreeti was dispatched by on evil mission of assassination but he was thwarted in that attempt. In later attempts, the Shield helped defend Zadius. On the utterance of the command phrase “Ashes to Ashes”, the shield transmutes into a brass candlestick holder depicting a stylized burning bush, i.e a menorah. In shield form the item has the following powers:

+3 shield

Resist energy (fire) 10 pts per round fire damage only stacks with Bludgeonator

Floats in magma/lava and will not lose its form. The crystal floats in a web of wood carved to resemble a stylized and curving basket-weave. The storm staff is said to be made of a splinter of Zeus staff and a gem which was formed when a lighting bolt from Thor struck Lharna. The goblins claim to have crafted this weapon but this is unlikely for the staff is proportioned for a man-sized creature. The staff has the following powers:

Fly (unlimited use) There is no casting time required and the user can fly in any weather or conditions without err.

Shock (unlimited use) When crossed over Windblade, Stormstaff imbues Windblade with a crackling electrical charge. No matter how quickly or how often the archer may fire, a single Arrow of Destiny is found in the quiver of the user. In conjunction with the Immortal Ring of Time, the Arrow of Destiny confers the following powers:

Clairvoyance or Clairaudience — but not both at the same time / place (unlimited)

Time Bump — Allows rerolls 3 times per day. Just as with infravision, gustovision cannot distinguish between similar tastes, but the user can clearly see outlines and shapes. Blindness and darkness do not affect this

Consult with the Stranger — Once per day, Hawksclaw may call upon the Stranger for advice and information. The stranger will not linger for longer than 1 minute for every three levels of the user.

The Arrow of Destiny also confers to the wearer the knowledge of, nature of and the location of the all the Ten Wondrous Items. Only when used in conjunction with the Bow of the Huntress and the Immortal Ring of Time the Arrow of Destiny confers a +1 bonus to Dexterity. It is the bearer of the Arrow of Destiny who bears the greatest burden upon the death of a comrade. Each time a fellow immortal is raised the wielder loses an ability point.

The single most powerful ability of the Arrow of Destiny is the option to borrow powers. The wielder can borrow any power at any time from any other immortal with certain limits. The user can not steal/borrow a power at the same time as the target immortal is using a power. However, a power may be “borrowed” and used at anytime after it is borrowed. While the power is borrowed, the other immortal does not have access to this power. If the power is not used within 24 hours, the power reverts back to the immortal from whom the power was taken. The wielder may only borrow one power at a time. There is a 10% chance that any given borrowed power will “stick”. That is, after the power is borrowed, it might not return to the user. In this event, the power will ever-after be a component of the Arrow of Destiny.

Relics and Magic Items

Elemental Form
The wearers of the Rings of the Immortals can take elemental form once per day for a number of minutes equal to the level of the character. The character retains his hit points and mental attributes when in elemental form. The character can use his spells and elemental weapon, but he is otherwise physically identical to the elemental as defined by the book. Armor, equipment and magic items become a part of the elemental’s form while in elemental form and thus are not usable / available. Thee character is allowed all special abilities of the elemental. The elemental form should have equal or lesser hit dice to the character.

Jason Hawksclaw can assume any elemental form: earth, air, fire, water, but he can only assume a form that is one half of his hit dice or less. Hawksclaw can also assume the form of a Time Elemental. When he takes this form, he will look exactly like the Stranger, but perhaps a bit ghostly. In this form Hawksclaw can shift from the Ethereal Plane to the Material Plane as a free action, and shift back again as a move action. This bow is said to have been crafted by an elf named Bhondouth I during the Age of Giants. The bow was modeled after the bow of a titan/god/giant named Artemis. The bowstring itself is said to be a single strand of Artemis’ hair. The bow appears as an ornate composite bow, like a Stradivarius violin, the method and components of this bow can only be guessed. The string of the bow appears as a wispy smoking shadow. The bow was a family heirloom for generations of elves, but it was lost in battle at the Androclysm and buried beneath the burnt carcasses of the undead enemy. The Order of the Arrow was reborn when a single human learned the secret arts of the bow from an elf, and the last of his kind to be a part of the Order. The greatest hope of the Order is to one day find the Bow of the Huntress.

When used in conjunction with the Arrow of Destiny the Bow of the Huntress has a number of spectacular powers.
· Add Dexterity bonuses to hit and to damage no matter what form the Bow takes
· The bow can transform into a composite bow, long bow or short bow at will and instantaneously.
· The bow can transform into a +1 shield. When this happens the Arrow of Destiny morphs into a long sword.
· The bearer of the bow is nearly irresistible to members of the opposite sex. Charm Person (CL = user level +3). To an observer it appears that the archer pours into the arrow as it is loosed and then pours out from the arrow when it strikes.

Tomahawk of Iowaffa

A massive axe cut from a stone mined from the heart of Dagmokk. Although the pear-shaped stone at the head of this axe resembles a flint tomahawk, it is actually a fine gem. This gem, named the Heart of the Earth, was cut by highly skilled Gnomish jewelers in the prehistory of dwarves and gnomes. The stone was the objective of the several wars and for a time the stone was worshipped as a god in the prehistory of dwarves and gnomes. However, when the dwarven profit Bigbeard brought the idea of monotheism to dwarves, the Heart of the Earth was cast out as a false god. It is said that the goblins paid dearly for the stone and it was the goblin king Greega the Gross who hit upon the idea of mounting the stone in a tomahawk. Greega was killed at the Battle of Haunted Pass and for a time the stone was lost. The Heart of the Earth was eventually recovered from the twin towers of ettin named Udelly Dva. Iowaffa slew the ettin to read from the Tome of Paths and at that time he found the Heart of the Earth. As Strength imparts bonuses to the use of a normal weapon, the wielder of the Tomahawk of Iowaffa uses Constitution to determine bonuses.

This weapon commonly functions as a +2 warhammer. In the hands of an Occopannac, dwarf or a gnome, the tomahawk gains an additional +1 enhancement bonus (for a total enhancement bonus of +3) and gains the returning special ability. When hurled, it deals an extra 2d8 points of damage against kobolds or an extra 1d8 points of damage against any other target.

When used in conjunction with the Immortal Earth Ring, the Tomahawk confers the following abilities:

Resist energy (sonic)

Spider climb (unlimited)

Sense direction (unlimited)

Engineering skill (+2 to rank for structures made of earth or stone)

Pass w/o trace (unlimited)

+1 warhammer

+2 vs. lawful outsiders

+5 vs. air outsiders

Super Smell — Add the user’s level to all Tracking checks.

Bludgeonator

The Bludgeonator is a massive flail weighing almost twice a normal flail. The metal on the flail is dark and gloomy as if made from lead or pewter. The weapon is heavy but finely balanced and swings like a whip. When held over an open flame, the bludgeonator will glow reddish orange as if fresh from the crucible. The flail itself is etched with layers of letters and characters. When the flail is cold, the markings appear as random pits and scratches. But when heated over a flame as above, hundreds of letters will appear searing hot white and orange. Which letters glow and what they say depends upon which character is holding the flail. For example, if an imam holds the flail, script is Arabic reads “Allah”. When Simeon holds the flail the characters are Hebrew and the letters spell “Yahweh”. As Strength imparts bonuses to the use of a normal weapon, the wielder of the Bludgeonator uses Wisdom to determine bonuses. Windblade does not inhibit spell casting of any kind and is sometimes called the Wizard’s Sword. The blade and sword appears otherwise unremarkable. When used in combat the blade appears insubstantial, appearing as a glass when motionless and as a blur when in motion. As Strength imparts bonuses to the use of a normal weapon, the wielder of Windblade uses Intelligence to determine bonuses. The blade itself sparkles with glittery blue specks over a navy-blue & steel-grey hue. The flat of the blade is etched with symbols from many cultures. The symbols that are recognizable are “water” symbols in various languages and cultures. Luther Pendrake, King of Sinepaxia, won this blade in battle against the elves. The name "Barkeater" came from their refusal to eat bread and other foods that they saw as threatening the cultural purity of their People. They were largely tolerated because they maintained many of the traditional manufacturing, hunting and gathering skills that had been lost by the more integrated clans of the tribe. Not known for their mental stability, things reached a peak with Massaquoit's grandfather, who walked into the Longhouse, announced he had decided to become a Bear and vanished, leaving his wife and daughter, Saskala, to fend for themselves. Many were unsure of whether he intended to become an actual bear or a member of the vanished Bear Clan, who the Barkeaters had claimed kinship with over the years.

When it was discovered that Saskala, Massaquoit's mother, was pregnant, the tribal elders condemned her moral impurity and demanded to know who the father was. She insisted to her dying day that the father was a wolf spirit who had seduced her in the woods. To disprove those who questioned her story, she promptly moved herself and her child to a cave, which was also the winter home of a wolf pack. Although several young men later claimed possible paternity of the child, the wolves seemed perfectly content with Saskala living among them, and showed a protectiveness of her that unnerved many.

Massaquoit, which means Wolf's Child, grew up between his grandmother's house, who supported herself doing odd jobs around the town, and the wolf's cave. The tribal elders initially refused to allow the child to be educated with the other children, until the increasing severity of wolf attacks on their livestock and horses became too much to bear. Often ill, due to the poor conditions in the cave, Massaquoit nonetheless developed a reputation as tough fighter with a profound connection to animals. His fame as a veterinarian and animal trainer brought him a measure of regional respect, all though his tendency to vanish into the backwoods for weeks at a time often infuriated his clients. All the money that he earned went to support his Grandmother. Although not the tribe's official shaman, many in the tribe have sought out his isolated teepee for advice on a range of matters, although some still shun him as an outcast.

Although few people remember the story, when Massaquoit's grandfather left the tribe, he claimed to be seeking the Great Peacemaker. Some of the village elder's also claimed that he had said that Iowaffa would return to reunify all the Occapanac tribes.

Occopannac Lands

The tribal lands of Massaquoit Barkeater. Nominally under the protection of the Barony of Telero.

A small number of Native Americans were transported from Earth to Lharna at approximately the same time as the same time as a prophet named the Great Peacemaker came to the Iroquois. The Great Peacemaker was a prophet with visions of political unity, but as with other cultures unity is more often found at the end of a tomahawk than the end of a prophecy. Eventually, a shaman, brave and chief named Iowaffa actually brought about this unity. Iowaffa, was a member of the Clan of the Bear, although he preached the equality of all clans and tribes. Iowaffa's tomahawk is a cherished Occopannac relic.

After the Androclysm, the Iroquois and a few other tribes from the forests of eastern America remained committed to the formation of a peaceful confederacy under Iowaffa's leadership. Soon after arriving in Lharna, Iowaffa, by then an old man, disappeared into the forests to the north on a Spirit Walk. The leaders of the Bear Clan struggled to hold the federation together in the strange new lands, but tribes and clans gradually splintered off. Rejecting the Bear clan's peaceful attempts to hold the Confederation together, a large group of former Iroquois, led by the Raven Clan attempted to seize power over all for themselves. The Raven War decimated the Iroquois and rather than unifying them, broke the confederation into a myriad of tribes, most of whom moved further south, closer to the protection of the other human peoples. The Bear Clan was nearly wiped out, although the few survivors married into the Wolf Clan.

It has been prophesized that the restoration of the Bear Clan will be the first step in the return of Iowaffa, who will reunify the tribes, and then of the Great Peacemaker who will usher in a thousand years of peace and stability.

While some Native Americans blended into Empire of Grodnus others banded together to form the Occopannac and lived at the fringes of human civilization, living from the land much as their ancestors had on Earth. Unlike other humans, the Occopannac to their knowledge are not at war with and have no problems with the elves, whom they call "spirit folk".

While most Occopannac speak the "white man's tongue" they also speak their own language, which is linguistically related to Iroquois languages. Most Occopannac worship the Great Spirit.

Occopannac live in longhouses and employ holding halls.

9 Journal

The Battle of Telero
An army of four thousand kobolds stand ready to over run the little town of Telero, but the party organizes defenses. They organize able-bodied men, ready the militia and recruit local nobles and Occopannac braves. There are several footmen from the Brotherhood of Defenders along with some Pergaeli swordsmen. The women, children and infirmed are herded into the church for their own protection when the attack looks imminent.

Before the battle begins the party foils a kobold plot to sap the tower and the church. Faelon, Telero, and Massaquoit decide to leave the city. Riding horses far from sight and beyond the view of the kobold army, they swing around behind the weakest point in the kobold line. Meanwhile the kobold army launches the assault. Siege weapons destroy an Inn and Telero's mansion. Under fire from many arrows, the kobolds advance.

A few kobolds are routed early on, but the kobold position looks strong. Only a handful of stout footmen hold the wall. A succubus detonates a fireball inside the townwall. Many peasants are killed and the survivors flee in terror. Meanwhile the enemy war engines breach the wall and ultrakobolds charge toward the breach. There is a desperate battle at every point along the wall. The Occopannac braves lose many warriors fending off a bloody uberkobold attack. But suddenly, the enemy war engines grow silent.

Prince Faelon, Baron Robert and his allies have returned. They wreck the war machines and then flank attackers who are breaching the wall. Meanwhile, Llaun uses his wand to reply to the enemy fireballs with a fireball of his own. The demoness is scorched, and charges in anger. She is met by whithering bow fire by Jason Hawksclaw and several of his Order of the Arrow orc companions. Before she can find cover, Llaun finishes her off by casting magic missile.

The rout is on.

The remants of the kobold army exits the field with the defenders of Telero in hot pursuit.

Journal

Players are encouraged to suppliment, augment and edit our weekly journals.

Part the First

1 Journal --- The characters started off in the port of Memphis where they heard rumors that the Steward of Telero, Donald Snodgrass, was hiring adventurers. The Green Griffon is a tavern and inn in Crumly which is frequented by merchants, adventurers, rogues and travellers. Crumly has a blacksmithy and a general store and several farms. At least that's what Crumly was like when the party's adventure's started.

Since that time, Crumly was burned to the ground by a kobold army.

Telero

Telero is at the very edge of the Sinepaxian frontier. When the party arrived Telero was ruled by the steward of Telero, Sir Donald Snodgrass. The rumor that Snodgrass was hiring adventurers turned out to be exagerated in the extreme. Sir Donald Snodgrass is now deceased.

Thanks to the party's efforts, Baron Robert Telero has returned to his barony.

Gene Parmesian

Gene is a master of disguise. Sandy says Gene is a spellcaster. The party has witnessed his "disappearing act" on two occasions. Tom Holbrook, a wererat and former member of the Order of the Arrow claims to know Gene Parmesian as "The Big Cheese". He claims that Gene infected guards with lycanthropy and it was Gene, not Snodrass, who ran Telero.

The party has discovered that Gene is the villainous mastermind behind all the troubles that Telero is experiencing. He infected half the town's guard with wererat lycanthropy and is himself a wererat. His headquarters are just west of Pueblo Alto where he had imprisoned and tortured the Baron of Telero. At this point, his true motivation is not clear as he barely escaped Faelon's sword. But what is apparent is that he is after the Reclarent, a famed magical sword.

Sir Donald Snodgrass, Steward of Telero

In Robert Telero's absence, Snodgrass was appointed the Steward of Telero.
