While the party is searching the pueblo,
Bailey (
Llaun's crow) find scraps of a paper which Llaun pieces together to form a map. In an undisturbed kiva the party finds several empty terra cotta jars. They smash and open several of the jars, but the
Rabbi notices puffs of smoke escaping the kiva when the jars are broken so he has Faelon hand the remaining jars up to the surface. Simeon is able to decipher a few names on the jars. They also find a similar marble passage in this kiva. The passage leads to the room of the Iron Golem.
Meanwhile
Lars and
Sandy find Llaun. Lars seeks
Faelon so Llaun leads Sandy and Lars up above the pueblo. Sandy Lars and Llaun climb to the top of the overlook above the pueblo and then when dusk arrives a cloud of bats emerge from somewhere far below them.
Meanwhile far below the bats and in the pueblo, the party is busy replenishing spells to make their escape from the pueblo. When they finally make it out, they meet Lars and Sandy along with Llaun.
Lars informs Faelon that "the Baron wishes to speak with him". It seems that Lars found Sandy along the way and that she was so incredibly dense he was afraid what would have happened to her "if he hadn't found her first". Fearing the worst, Faelon and the party set out for
Telero. On the way, it becomes very obvious that Sandy is even more stupid than she normally is.
Telero
The party arrives at Telero. The Rabbi and Faelon go to the temple to glean information from Father
Raef Coachman. Faelon uses
the Church's facilities to clean up after the many days spent in the field. He wants to make himself presentable to the Baroness, whose company he profoundly enjoys.
Llaun goes to a bathhouse and engages in mild homoerotica.
Meanwhile,
Jason Hawksclaw and a few others encounter a goblin merchant who is peddling his wares as he makes his way through Telero. Jason purchases several magical arrows which he will later put to some use.
The party regroups and together go to see the Baron. Though the party was led to believe that the Baron had returned-- it turns out that it was the beautiful young (and under-aged) Baroness that summoned Faelon.
The baroness has assumed power but things are in disarray and she requires the assistance of Faelon and the party. Many of the town gaurd have deserted and because no taxes are available, there is no money for the defense of
Telero. The Baroness is very concerned because she has heard
Gaston was recently wiped out by invading kobolds.
Faelon provides
Sharon Newman, the captain of the guard, with 125 gp of his own gold to keep things running for a week or so and the party sets off to see
Pearce Plowman whom they would like to deputize.
Faelon also instructs
Sharon Newman to assume more authority. With the baroness' permission, Sharon is instructed to take over tactical decision making from Lady Elaine. Sharon is ordered to put special emphasis on the gates and bridges.
Pearce Plowman
The party appoints
Pearce as the tax collector after Faelon returns Pearce's ring to him. Pearce looks at the party's map and tells them that Cullen McGreedy, who's probably been dead 20 years, was an adventuring buddy of
Fenton Ermery. Out of gratitude for the return of the onyx ring, Pearce also gives the party a map which he thinks they might find useful.
After attempting to secure a steady stream of tax money for defense, by way of appointing a fair and honest tax collector, the party heads back to Telero.
Telero
As the party arrives in
Telero they see a squad of
goblins headed straight for the Baron's stronghold. The party halts them at the gate and inquires to their business. They discover that a tribute given to King Ggorp has not been delivered in over a month and that the
goblins are here to demand it of Snodgrass.
Faelon and the rabbi speak for the Baroness while in the baroness's receiving hall. While the principals are negotiating the details of tribute, and whether any tribute will be paid, Llaun is up to a bit of mischief. Llaun begins wagering with Jason Hawksclaw about shooting the goblin emmissary. Jason fires an arrow at the emmissary while he is talking with the baroness. The arrow causes little damage but releases a deafening thunder.
The goblin envoy is stunned, not because of the magical arrow (he makes his saving throw), but he is shocked because not even kobolds would attempt to kill a diplomat. Meanwhile on Telero's behalf Faelon refuses to pay the tribute. The goblin envoy begins to storm out, but Jason Hawksclaw fires one of his newly purchased magical arrows an arrow at the emmissary, instantly killing him.
The party makes short work of the rest of the
goblin party which accompanied the envoy.
The party now sets about devising a plan to frame the poaching kobolds as the killers of the goblin diplomatic mission, thereby enlisting the help of the
goblins against the poaching kobolds. After making hasty defensive plans for the town while they are away, the party sets off to
Forkestre. They find that the burned bodies of Snodgrass and the other wererats were unearthed and that the tower has been intruded upon.
The party decides to hunt kobolds. Kobolds aren't hard to find. They seem to be everywhere. The party battles a squad of kobolds led by one that is particulary large, orangey-red and particularly vicious.
Massaquoit's loyal wolf immediately attacks the center of the kobolds rank, killing one, and is then flanked on both sides. The kobolds mean to "bumbrush" Fido.
Faelon charges and defeats the red kobold sergeant with one well-placed sword slash as
Jason Hawksclaw releases a flurry of arrows.
After defeating the kobalds, they bind the large one and heal it. Once this kobold is not longer near death, the party mercilessly tortures the poor little kobold. But this kobold is one crazed fellow who appears to be hopped up on drugs of some kind. When even genital mutilation doesn't produce so much as a snivel from this kobold, the party decides that this kobold may soften up with time.
Pueblo Alto unlike
Pueblo Uno, appears to be teeming with goblin activity. The party happens upon a group of orcs.
